Potpourri-the inside scoop:)

One of the biggest home furnishing and gift shows is currently being held in Atlanta Georgia. Its called ‘The Atlanta International Gift & Home Furnishings Market‘. It is the largest trade show of it’s kind in the USA.  Recently we had the opportunity of working with a good friend, Chantel.  Chantel is a success story in herself. She started her business: Garden Route, as a home based business so that she could spend home time with her growing family. She has since completely out grown her home, to the extent that she now has two warehouses with 20+- employees.

You Don’t Know What You Don’t Know

Not ever really knowing much about potpourri, it has been a fascinating job for me. The extent that Chantel and this company go to to sourcing the correct ingredients is nothing short of inspirational. Take a look at the pictures below and you will see how far potpourri has come since the days of a scented bag of wood shavings. Look at all the different ingredients. The different colors and sizes of the contents. These bags are all packed identically before they go off to retailers around the country. It’s no wonder that with this attention to detail, Garden Route has become a formidable force in this niche market.

Chantel and her husband, Abe, are South African natives that relocated to this area twenty years ago. They had strong links in farming and horticulture back in South Africa, so it follows that most of the ingredients for the products are imported and shipped from South Africa.  These ingredients arrive in big pallet size plastic containers approximately one cubic yard in size. They are sealed to keep them fresh and free from bugs and moisture. They are then stored in cold storage for the same reason.

Not only is the attention to detail quite extraordinary during the manufacturing process but the same attention to detail benefits the consumer too.  Garden Route offers a full line of replenishable oils and scents so that you can use the potpourri over and over. You can switch out your different displays for the different seasons and then reuse them again the next year.

Garden Route products are available at Cracker Barrel restaurants and Whole Foods Market, as well as many other retailers. Check them out at http://www.gardenroutehome.com

Drone Photography and Filming, Captiva island

Drone Photography and a Captiva Beachfront House

We had our aerial drone photography platform out on Captiva Island for a recent real estate shoot (Octohawk.com). Drone photography a great way to show perspective of location. In these pictures you can see exactly the proximity of the house to the Gulf of Mexico, the back bay, Blind Pass and Turners Beach. Used in conjunction with your more usual land based images, aerial photography offers a compelling way to market a house sale. Not only that, its a fantastic way to see/show the beauty of the Sanibel and Captiva Islands:)

Now this is the backyard most people dream about.

Who wouldn’t want to wake up this view every morning?

This view shows the relationship of the houses location to the surrounding areas. Note the power lines on Captiva Drive. You can also see where the back bay meets the Gulf of Mexico under the bridge at Blind Pass. The houses at the top, left of the picture are on Sanibel, whilst everything in the foreground is Captiva.

Captiva, from Gulf to bay

This is a view of Turners Beach and in the distance the view towards Pine Island Sound (or the back bay). The Gulf of Mexico is in the foreground. At the horizon is the coast of Pine Island. It’s incredible to think that it would take approximately 1 hour 40 mins to drive to the southern most point of Pine Island from this location. You could try a boat at 30 minutes. Or you could try paramotoring at PlanetPPG on Pine Island (one of my favorite pastimes:). Flying a paramotor across the Sound would take you a couple of minutes (although your not allowed to land on the beach on Captiva so that would be tough:)

Slow Motion Video Booth!

Slow Motion Video Booth

This weekend we used our slow motion video booth for a wedding at The Sanctuary Golf Club on Sanibel Island. It really is a blast. We have a backdrop set up with lots of props on tables. It literally took a couple of minutes after it opened for everyone to start joining in the fun. The hilarious part is

when people get to see the slow motion video clips right there and then on the screen. You could hear nothing but roaring laughter coming from the booth. The ironic part is that the bride said she wasn’t really “the photo booth type” luckily she trusted our judgment and it was a huge hit. We have had a photo booth for the last several years and while it is fun, this is on another level. You could see people returning to the dance floor laughing and joking….it’s infectious.

The finished product will be like the example video below but much longer. We take all the clips, vary the speeds add some cool music and voila!

If you are wondering how much space you would need: The backdrop is 9′ wide so the booth would need to be approximately 10’x20′ although we can scale down the size of the booth if we need to. It just means you would not be able to get as many people in it.

Call us about pricing, we have discounts for clients that book multiple services with us.

Contact us at 239-395-7671 to hire the slow motion video booth for your next event.

Shelby and Brandon were the Bride and Groom in this wedding. Look out for an upcoming feature on the blog. We are going

to showcase everything from the photography to the wedding film to the finished slow motion video… coming soon!

Harley-Davidson Fort Myers!

Scott Fischer and the new Six Bends Harley-Davidson store

Lisa and I had an interesting shoot a little while back with  Scott Fischer, the CEO of  Six Bends Harley-Davidson for the cover of Gulf & Main magazine. Scott is the founder and CEO of Scott Fischer Enterprises. Scott currently owns six Harley-Davidson stores and they are regularly listed in the top 10 dealerships in the country. Scott was a real gent and great to photograph. Lisa and I tried our best to be a little creative with the location of the shot. The obvious place to have done the shot would have been in front of the Six Bends sign (the same angle I posted in Instagram, @nickadamsphotog) but it was way to obvious, so we went for the service bay area. We tried a couple of different kinds of bikes but ended up with a 2015, custom Road Glide all decked out in chrome and painted in the classic Harley orange.

If you are like me and are into bikes, you have to go and check this place out. (actually you should check it out even if your not) It’s sort of like the ‘Bass Pro Shops’ of motorcycle dealerships. You can’t help but be impressed when you pull up to this place.  The showroom is vast and packed full with every Harley accessory or bike you could ever want. If you are visiting the area and want to ride, you can rent a Harley during your stay. The rental program at this dealership is first class. I can say from experience, not only did I attain my motorcycle permit with the (old) Fort Myers dealership but I have rented motorcycles from them too. They are all low milage practically new bikes. Nothing beats the growl of a Harley on the Florida roads.  You can check out his story here:  http://gulfmainmagazine.com/dm/2015/sep-oct

Suwannee River Campground

I did a five hour real estate shoot of some really cool campground lots that are for sale along the Suwannee River. They are an acre in size and have all of the hookups for RV, 5th wheel or tent camping; power, sewer, storage shed, grill, camp tables, fire pit, etc. The RV lots have a storage area for your RV and an undercover area with fans, power etc. along with a huge 12×40 storage room in the attic. You can even tie your boat up at the river access. This is a great part of Florida. It is home to hundreds of natural springs. They are amazing, you can scuba dive or snorkel in them or take a tube ride on one of the many lazy rivers. If you or anyone you know is interested in these lots let me know and I will pass on your info.
