Sanibel Museum a Must Do!

A Sanibel museum is a “Thing to Do” while your are visiting Sanibel and Captiva Islands.

A Sanibel museum to visit

One Sanibel Museum is the Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum

Now in its 20th year, The Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum on Sanibel Island is the only museum in the United States that is solely devoted to shells and the mollusks that make them.

Ours is a natural history museum that exhibits beautiful shells from around the globe. Our world-renowned malacologist and two Marine Biologists are joined by highly educated docents to offer a wealth of knowledge, surprising facts, and rare insights into the lesser-known complexities of shells. Yes, there’s science (and a lot of it!) and we also cover many cultural, historical and culinary facets of shells.

Still, our greatest asset is an innate sense of curiosity and wonder about shells. We have a lot of fun here at the Museum; we thankfully never stop learning and sometimes even get a little goofy about new discoveries – whether brought to our attention by a guest, gleaned from our own research, or found within the larger scientific world. Come see us; you’ll be glad you did!

The other Sanibel Museum is the Sanibel Historical Museum & Village

Sanibel Historical Museum and Village was founded in 1984 with a mission to preserve and share Sanibel history. The story of Sanibel is told from the Calusa and Spanish eras to the early pioneer families who settled on the island in the 1800s. It tells of warriors, adventures, fishermen, farmers and proprietors.

Seven historic buildings were moved from their original island sites to the Historical Village. Each building has been restored to its original state. Volunteer docents share the stories of Sanibel with almost 10,000 visitors a year. Join us as we follow the footsteps of the past.

Slow Motion Video Booth!

Slow Motion Video Booth

This weekend we used our slow motion video booth for a wedding at The Sanctuary Golf Club on Sanibel Island. It really is a blast. We have a backdrop set up with lots of props on tables. It literally took a couple of minutes after it opened for everyone to start joining in the fun. The hilarious part is

when people get to see the slow motion video clips right there and then on the screen. You could hear nothing but roaring laughter coming from the booth. The ironic part is that the bride said she wasn’t really “the photo booth type” luckily she trusted our judgment and it was a huge hit. We have had a photo booth for the last several years and while it is fun, this is on another level. You could see people returning to the dance floor laughing and joking….it’s infectious.

The finished product will be like the example video below but much longer. We take all the clips, vary the speeds add some cool music and voila!

If you are wondering how much space you would need: The backdrop is 9′ wide so the booth would need to be approximately 10’x20′ although we can scale down the size of the booth if we need to. It just means you would not be able to get as many people in it.

Call us about pricing, we have discounts for clients that book multiple services with us.

Contact us at 239-395-7671 to hire the slow motion video booth for your next event.

Shelby and Brandon were the Bride and Groom in this wedding. Look out for an upcoming feature on the blog. We are going

to showcase everything from the photography to the wedding film to the finished slow motion video… coming soon!

NBC’s Today Show to announce: Sanibel is number one!!!

NBC’s Today Show to announce: Sanibel Island is the best Family-Friendly Vacation Spot in the U.S. according to a poll conducted by the readers of the national publication FamilyFun Magazine.

FamilyFun stated in their April 2015 issue that “Sanibel Island is the perfect family getaway, boasts 250 types of shells, 230 types of birds, 50 species of fish, 25 miles of bike paths, 15 miles of unspoiled beaches and 0 stoplights.”

NBC’s Today Show will run a segment with Kathie Lee Gifford and co-host Hoda Kotb (herself, a former Wink TV presenter).

The hosts will be presented with a basket of Sanibel clues by FamilyFun Deputy editor Mary Giles, they then have to guess the destination.

The show is to be aired nationally between 10am and 11am on Thursday, May 7, 2015.

Sanibel won in two categories: The Best Family-Friendly Vacation Spot in the U.S. and The Top Tourist Town category.

No small feat as it was up against national parks and theme parks across the nation, not forgetting the stunning variety of destinations in the U.S.

Well done Sanibel, the not-so-secret, secret paradise in the U.S:)
